MS Re-Imaging Rights
Re-imaging Rights
Re-imaging Rights, or the ability to copy software to multiple devices from one standard image, is offered to all customers using multi-license agreements. By exercising this right, a volume license customer may reinstall properly purchased OEM, boxed software, or software obtained through another Microsoft program, using media (or online installation) obtained through that volume license program.
Re-installation is permitted only for products for which the customer obtains at least one license.
This right has several rules:
- The customer must own a separate license for each product for which a new installation image is created.
- The product, language, version and components of the copies must be identical to the product, language, version and all components of the copies being replaced by the new copies, and the allowable number of copies or instances of the product for which the new installation image is being created must remain the same.
- The product type (for example, with an upgrade license or a full license) must be identical to the product type from a separate source, except for copies of the operating system and copies of products licensed under another Microsoft program.
- The customer must comply with the requirements related to the re-imaging of a specific product specified in the product usage rights or in the product list.
The right to re-imaging is most often applied to operating systems that are acquired as an OEM.
